Kabuki Actor Ukiyo-e Canvas

A canvas print of a kabuki actor mid-performance, face painted in bold kumadori makeup, framed by an elaborate patterned kimono, in the style of classic ukiyo-e actor portraits.

These portraits belong to yakusha-e (役者絵), prints made to celebrate kabuki, the most popular theatre of Edo-period Japan.
